The
State Superintendent of Public Instruction primary election was held on February 17, 2009, and the general election followed on April 7, 2009. Tony Evers, the winning candidate of this nonpartisan race was inaugurated as the new State Superintendent of Public Schools on July 6, 2009, and is now serving a 4 year term as head of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Incumbent Elizabeth Burmaster did not seek re-election.
