Jefferson County democrats discuss organizing on the grassroots level for the Obama Campaign headed up to the November 2008 elections. Jefferson County is a predominately republican-leaning area. Volunteers discuss their responsibilities and activities.

Music artist Carole King held a "Get-Out-The-Vote For Change" event at Angie’s Café in Shawano on October 23, 2008 for the Obama Campaign. King held a number of events across the state over two days. King also campaigned for Sen. John Kerry in Wisconsin in 2004.

Gov. Jim Doyle held a "Vote Early for Change" event at the Green Bay Democratic Party campaign office on October 21, 2008.

Former democratic presidential candidate, U.S. Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, held a “Vote Early for Change” rally in Red Arrow Park in Milwaukee on October 14, 2008. Kerry made several other stops around the state to encourage early voting for the democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

At an event sponsored by UW-Madison’s Middle East Studies program four professors discussed the two major presidential candidate’s views on the future of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. The panel included Uli Schamiloglu, Professor of Languages and Cultures of Asia, Nadav Shelef, Assistant Professor of Comparative Politics, Jeremi Suri, Assistant Professor of History, Joe Elder, Professor of Sociology, Languages and Cultures of Asia. The event was held at the UW-Extension Lowell Center on October 13, 2008.

In response to a visit to the city by republican presidential candidate John McCain, Wisconsin democrats held a rally at the La Crosse Democratic Campaign office on October 10, 2008. The event was highlighted by Wisconsin’s senior U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl. He was joined by U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, who represents the state’s 3rd Congressional District, and other local representatives. Earlier in the day McCain spoke at the La Crosse Center.

Top economic advisors of the two presidential campaigns met at Grainger Hall on the UW-Madison campus to discuss key economic issues in an event moderated by Dr. Michael Knetter, dean of the Wisconsin School of Business. The event, entitled “Proposals for Change: Economic Policy Platforms of the Presidential Campaigns,” was held on October 10, 2008.

In response to republican presidential candidate John McCain’s visit to Waukesha, Gov. Jim Doyle held a rally with community members, supporters and volunteers at the Obama Campaign for Change office in Waukesha on October 9, 2008.

U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott of Washington State campaigned for democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama around Wisconsin on October 9, 2008. McDermott, a former physician, discussed health care issues with voters at the home of Mark and Angie Kirst in Beaver Dam. The congressman made other stops in Mount Horeb, Baraboo, Middleton, Germantown and Whitefish Bay during a two day visit to the state. He also helped kickoff a canvassing effort in Sun Prairie on Wednesday. McDermott was joined by U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin at many of the events.

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson campaigned in southeastern Wisconsin on October 3, 2008 on behalf of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama. After Gov. Richardson, a former U.S. Energy Secretary, was joined by Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle in Menomonee Falls in the morning to discuss Sen. Obama's energy plans, he met with supporters at a Rally on Milwaukee’s south side. The event was held at Pedrano’s Restaurant on 6th Street.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama held a “Change We Need” Rally in La Crosse on October 1, 2008. The event was held at the Intersection at Pearl and 2nd Street, beside the La Crosse Center.

A forum on senior issues was held at the Obama Campaign headquarters in Madison on October 1, 2008 as part of the campaign’s Senior’s Week of Action.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Governor Howard Dean held an economic town hall meeting in Janesville to discuss the democratic presidential ticket’s economic agenda on September 30, 2008. Dean also made stops in Monroe, Platteville, Eau Claire and Menomonie.

Michelle Obama, the wife of democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, held a “Women’s Week of Action” Rally on September, 22, 2008 at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Park next the Camp Randall in Madison. Obama made other stops in Wausau and West Allis later in the day.

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius campaigned for democratic presidential nominee U.S. Sen. Barack Obama across Wisconsin September 17, 2008. Sebelius addressed voters at town halls in La Crosse, Wausau and Sun Prairie before ending the day at a women’s outreach event in Waukesha. WisconsinEye attended this event in Sun Prairie, where Sebelius was joined by Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, at the Colonial Club Senior Activity Center.

On a tour of republican-leaning areas of the state, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Joe Wineke and Wisconsin Policy Director for the Obama Campaign Peter Harrell met with voters at Tribeca Gallery Café and Books in Watertown on September 16, 2008. The two also visited Fond du Lac, Waupun and Fort Atkinson to hold similar events.

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden campaigned for the Obama-Biden ticket in Green Bay on September 8, 2008. The campaign stop was Biden's first visit to Wisconsin since he accepted the Democratic nomination.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and other Barack Obama supporters held a “Register for Change” event in downtown Madison on September 3. Dean, the former Governor of Vermont, encouraged Madisonians to register to vote and directed potential voters to the local municipal clerk’s office.

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, the democratic president candidate, returned to Wisconsin on September 1, 2008 to headline a “Rally for America’s Workers in Milwaukee at the Marcus Amphitheater. Obama was joined by Wisconsin politicians including Gov. Jim Doyle.

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, the democratic presidential candidate, visited the Rod and Gun Park on the shores of Half Moon Lake in Eau Claire on August 24, 2008. Obama was joined by Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle and U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold.

Former Missouri U.S. Sen. Jean Carnahan hosted a town hall on women and family issues in Madison on August 22, 2008 for the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign. Carnahan was joined by U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Middleton, Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, and Secretary of the Department of Workforce Development Roberta Gassman. Rep. Terese Berceau, D-Madison, also joined the forum held at an Obama Campaign field office.

Thousands of area residents gathered Wednesday evening for the opening of the Obama campaign headquarters, located on 4th and Wells Street in downtown Milwaukee. Speakers included Governor Jim Doyle, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, State Representative Sheila Kochren, and others. The headquarters is now the largest Obama campaign office in the state.

U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin hosted a news conference on Senator Barack Obama's tax plan for America. Baldwin said Senator Obama will cut taxes by $1,000 per working family and eliminate income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000. Baldwin added that Senator Obama will not raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 per year.
